What are the transport links nearby?
Are there any local shops within walking distance?
Are the neighbouring houses in a good state of repair?
Local properties close by could determine the future value of your new home. Make sure that they seem to be in a good state of repair.
Is it on a busy road or a flight path?
Visiting the property on multiple occasions will allow you to evaluate the outside noise.
Are there any roof tiles missing?
If there are it may be worth checking for damp inside the property.
Are there signs of subsidence?
Cracking walls or an uneven roof line may all be signs that are property is subsiding. A full survey should identify this, however a survey will have cost you money and identification of this problem may well save you thousands of pounds.

Is it double glazed?
Is there sufficient storage space?
Can you hear the neighbours?
Are there signs of subsidence?
Are there signs of damp?
Have the current owners currently redecorated?
This could conceal damp patches or cracks.
Are the window frames in good condition?
Window frames with cracking paint indicate damp. Lightly press your finger into the wood and if it sinks in easily the wood is rotten.
Are the rooms a practical shape
Consider how you will fit you furniture into the property.
Are carpets included into the price?
Are any appliances included?
Is there any central heating?
If there is a central heating system, ask when the boiler was last checked.
